variants, this game is more like a Five Finger Fillet variant instead, wherein you wager your fingers against your soul in the pits of hell. In order to reduce your 5000 year sentence, you must defeat your game host in five games of Bonesaw. As the name would suggest, removal of digits is done via a circular saw. How this works is you take turns with the host. Your goal is to fully open both of your opponent’s hands by “adding fingers” to their hand. Basically, you are making them show their fingers until all five are showing, after which that hand is lost.

To spruce this up, a third character is added to the table. A skeleton who can’t attack, but who guards a special ability card both you and your opponent are trying to get.

Why? Because they have abilities such as to resurrect a lost hand, restore a lost finger, and other abilities depending on the card. There is one card per round. Additionally, you and the host also each have three randomly determined tokens that also have special abilities such as stealing and using an opponent’s token, doubling your attacks for one round, and plenty more. I can see additional tokens being something the devs add during early access, but there is already a fun selection of them. So, how does the Bonesaw factor in? Well, in addition to everything I mentioned above, there is also a bell that will appear on the center of the table after a round of play. Buckshot Roulette

This bell reveals the Bonesaw. Once engaged, the bell ends up next to one of the hands on the table. Pressing the bell on your turn instead of attacking will move the bell however many hands based on the number of fingers you have revealed in the hand you choose to ring the bell. After the bell reaches its full state, it will saw off a finger. Which obviously makes it easier to defeat that hand and adds a layer of strategy beyond resource management and needing to decide if you’re going to attack the host or the skeleton. And while this can all sound a bit convoluted reading about it, it makes total sense in context of actually playing the game.

Bonesaw You have to win three rounds to win a match, and of course you need to win five matches in a row to free yourself from hell.

When you get both of your opponent’s hands open, you win the round. You both start with one finger on each hand already revealed, and each finger revealed counts as a point. The positive is that however many fingers you have revealed in a hand is how many fingers your opponent must reveal if you select their hand. However, if you go over the total fingers they have in a hand, their hand resets to one And that is the game in a nutshell. A hand is removed from play when its total finger count is reached or when it’s severed by the saw. Player Turn: Play chips and power cards to gain special abilities. Attack an opponent’s hand and add the number of fingers from your attacking hand to theirs. If the attack total exceeds the number of fingers on the targeted hand, the count resets and the remaining amount is added Or Attack the bell to activate the saw. Additional attacks on the bell will move the blade clockwise around the active hands to have it target another hand.  The skeleton is a passive side player. Be the first to eliminate him to earn a power card, granting a unique and game-changing ability.
