the Veilguard Headlines PlayStation Plus Essential Monthly Free Games Line Up Fo…

Those delightful little scamps over at PlayStation HQ have announced the three “free” games that PS Plus subscribers can look forward to getting after March 4th. And honestly, this month’s offering is a bit shocking.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard did not perform up to EA’s expectations, only “engaging” about half of what the company was hoping for from BioWare’s big new RPG. But despite that failure, I sure as hell did not expect Dragon Age: The Veilguard to be headlining this month’s PS Plus line up just four months afte launching. And yet that’s exactly what’s happening. Yup, on March 4th you’ll be able to claim and play the the RPG at no exta cost provided you have a PS Plus or higher subscription.

Keep in mind, only PS5 owners can claim Dragon Age: The Veilguard. In fact, Sony has announced that in the near future, PS4 games will be getting removed from the monthly games.

I never did get around to reviewing the game, but I did actually sink about 30 hours into it via the EA Play Subscription and actually wound up liking it. It’s certainly nothing special and especially not worth the lengthy development time it took, but there’s fun to be had battling ancient gods and exploring the world. The overarching narrative is fun and the combat is solid. The character writing is all over the bloody place, though, as is the rest of the writing in general. In other words, it’s worth playing considering you are getting it at no extra cost.

Joining EA’s failed RPG is Sonic Colors: Ultimate (PS4), a remake of the classic Sonic game.

“The evil Dr. Eggman has built an interstellar amusement park – but he’s powering it with a captured alien race called “Wisps.” Use Sonic’s speed to free the Wisps and gain their amazing powers as you explore six unique worlds, filled with hurdles to overcome,” says the PlayStation blog. “Now with stunning upscaled visuals, additional features, a new game mode and enhanced gameplay – it’s the Ultimate Sonic Colors experience. “

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection (PS4, PS5) is the third and final game for March.

“13 classic Konami TMNT games are assembled in one incredible package! Experience 13 immensely popular and influential TMNT games in a totally radical collection from Konami. These retro nostalgia trips come with a range of new quality-of-life features, including online play for certain games and local couch play, the ability to save anytime and rewind, button mapping, unique development art & sketches, historic TMNT media content and more! “
